A leisure battery installation along with a split charging system is a quick easy way to provide power for a range of campervan facilities. Once your battery is installed it can be used to power led lighting, fridges and coolboxes, 12v sockets and usb chargers, taps and water pumps.
Campervan design and facilities don’t necessarily need to be overly complicated, often customers just need basic facilities such as some where to sleep, lighting and a method of keeping the bacon, milk and beer cold. This sort of set up is often termed a “Dayvan”. Dayvans can be highly adaptable and can still be insured as Campervans, with the associated advantages of lower insurance. However it isn’t possible to get your V5 changed to register as a “Motor Caravan”, to this you would need to fit a more comprehensive layout and associated facilities.
Work vehicles can also benefit from having a leisure battery fitted, the battery can often be fitted under the existing seating, and even if you have tools and equipment in the rear the battery can provide useful power for camping weekends.
In conjunction with a split charging system this battery can be charged by the vehicle while you are driving so there is no need for a 240v supply and separate charger. An option for the new Euro 6 engines is a battery to battery split charging system. This gets around the problems encountered with the start stop technology and regenerative braking systems.
